Sink drain being washed during Spring cleaning

Spring Cleaning Checklist: Plumbing Edition

By Asher B In blog No comments

Now that Spring has arrived, you are busy with some serious cleaning around your home. Most often, this includes washing windows, tidying up your yard, and mopping a few floors to give them a fresh, clean look for the new season. However, while you are busy tending to these and other things on your spring cleaning checklist, don’t forget about your plumbing system. If you’re wondering what this will entail, your friends here at Boss Plumbing offer you our Spring Cleaning Checklist: Plumbing Edition.

1. Clean The Garbage Disposal

Over the last few months, chances are you’ve used your garbage disposal quite often. Therefore, it’s time to give it some TLC by cleaning it. One of the best ways to do so is by using cold water, small citrus rinds, and baking soda, which will get it clean as well as leave it with a fresh scent. Also, we suggest you send a few small crushed ice cubes down your disposal, since this will keep the blades sharp. Should you notice any leaks or odd sounds coming from your disposal, give us a call here at Boss Plumbing.

2.Maintain Your Bathroom Plumbing

After you’ve finished tending to your garbage disposal, the next task on your spring cleaning list should be some drain cleaning and maintenance in your home’s bathroom. One of the easiest things you can do is wipe down your shower head. By doing this, you are preventing mineral buildup that can make your shower’s water flow very inefficient.

While you’re at it, you may also want to grab your plunger and use it to clean out the bathroom’s drain pipes. This can help to prevent clogs, and may also loosen up small ones that are just starting to form.

Should you start noticing problems with slow bathroom drains and find your best efforts are not working, let our pros at Boss Plumbing have a crack at it.

3.Check Your Water Heater For Leaks

If there is one aspect of home plumbing systems that gets overlooked during Spring cleaning, it is a home’s water heater. Here at Boss Plumbing, we find ourselves not only handling those complex and frustrating drain cleaning duties, but also tending to water heaters during the spring months.

If you’ve been having problems with water that’s too hot or too cold, your water heater’s thermostat or heating elements could be experiencing problems. When doing your Spring cleaning, check your water heater for any leaks around its bottom, and also listen for any knocking sounds or other weird noises that may indicate that it needs to be repaired or replaced. If you do notice anything out of the ordinary, let our experienced Boss Plumbing technicians handle the job.

4.Inspect The Pipes And Drains

Finally, don’t forget to inspect various pipes and drains throughout your home for any problems. Along with the drains in your bathroom, don’t forget to clean the drains in your kitchen, utility room, or other areas of your home. Examine pipes in your basement and elsewhere for rust or corrosion, which can result in leaks big and small. While you’re wiping down showerheads, do the same with fixtures on your sinks. Should you notice fixtures that are dripping, leaking, feel loose, or have other things wrong with them, put aside your Spring cleaning checklist and call us here at Boss Plumbing.
